Christmas Holidays
FTDI would like to wish all of our customers and sales partners a merry
Christmas and a prosperous 2008.
FTDI's UK office will be closed from Monday 24th Decmber
2007, reopening on Thursday 3rd January 2008.
FTDI's US office will be closed on Monday 24th, Tuesday 25th and Monday
31st December 2007 and Tuesday 1st January 2008.
FTDI TW will be closed on Tuesday 1st January 2008.
All e-mails received during this time will be dealt with on the offices
reopening.

Vinculum Article Published In Toragi - Japan
An article describing a
Vinculum based MP3 played has been published in the
December edition of Transistor Gijutsu
in Japan. Published in the Hot Device Report section,
the article
shows how to use the
VNC1L device with an MP3 decoder to play
MP3 files directly from a USB Flash drive.

Mac OS X VCP Driver Update for Leopard
A new release of the Mac OS X VCP driver has been made available to
address an issue with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. The new drivers can be

Vinculum Article Published in AEI
Fred Dart, FTDI's Managing Director, has had a

of AEI. The article describes interfacing a PIC 16F688

Web Site and E-Mail Issues
FTDI would like to apologise for the web site and
e-mail problems experienced between Wednesday 18th July and Monday 30th
July. The company web site and e-mails are now hosted by a
different provider and the problems have now been resolved.
However, due to the migration
to a new provider and the original servers not functioning many of the
e-mails sent to FTDI during this period have become lost. We would
kindly ask that anyone who has sent an e-mail to FTDI during this period
who has not had their needs addressed please resend their e-mails to us.
All correspondence will be dealt with as quickly as possible and we
thank you for your patience.

Vinculum Article
Published
John Hyde of
USB Design By Example has had a
Vinculum article published in July's
Circuit Cellar (#204). The
Vinculum allows a Flash Drive to be easily added to any piece
of electronics equipment and John's article presents examples, with
schematics and reference code, for two classes of applications: data
distribution and data collection.

FTDI To Exhibit
at ESEC Japan
FTDI staff will be attending the
Embedded Systems Expo & Conference in Tokyo, Japan from the
16th - 18th May 2007. FTDI will be sharing
booth
East 35-10 with our Japanese distributor,
Daito Electron.
This will be the first time FTDI has
attended an event in Japan and will provide the first opportunity for
Japanese customers to interact directly with FTDI staff. Attendees
are invited to talk to staff regarding the full FTDI product range
including
Vinculum Embedded USB Host Controller,
USB - Serial
and USB - FIFO
ICs.

Article
Featuring FT232R Published
An article describing a
software defined radio project has been
published in the May 2007 edition of
Elektor magazine. The
FT232R is
used to provide the USB interface which controls the receiver.

|
DLP-232PC Released
DLP Design have released the new
DLP-232PC module. Measuring in at only 1.375" x 0.6",
this new module is DLP's lowest cost and smallest USB to microcontroller
module to date. The
DLP-232PC uses single byte commands and
FTDI's Virtual COM Port
(VCP) drivers to provide an easy to use USB interface to a
PIC 18F2410 microcontroller. Features include 14 I/O channels (8
can be used for analogue inputs measuring 0-5 Volts), a standard 0.3"
wide DIP footprint and pre-programmed firmware for easy access to the
I/Os and external digital temperature sensors.
DLP Design has also upgraded the
DLP-D
security dongle with a plastic enclosure.

New Distributor Announcement
FTDI are pleased to announce that
Galaxy Far East Corporation (GFEC) has signed a

Vinculum Articles Published
Two articles have been published describing applications using the
Vinculum VNC1L IC.
Don Powrie of
DLP Design has had an article published
in
Nuts & Volts (March 2007 issue) called
"Add Audio Playback To Your Next Project" in which he describes using
the
VMUSIC1 module with a microcontroller
and an RFID reader. This allows him to scan an RFID tag and play
an MP3 track from a USB Flash disk with different RFID tags
corresponding to different MP3 tracks.
Jeff Bahchiochi has an article in
Circuit Cellar (March 2007 issue)
called "Embedded USB Breakthrough". In this article, Jeff uses a
small board using a
VDIP1 and a microcontroller to replace
his laptop for a mobile data logging application.

VF2F2 Module Available
The
VF2F2 is a reference design for the
Vinculum
VNC1L. It is designed as a stand
alone application which allows for the back up of files from a digital
camera onto a USB Flash disk. The project is also
available from FTDI as an evaluation kit.
VF2F2 reference design
schematics and PCB Gerber files are
available for free download from the
Vinculum web site.
The
VF2F2 is available now from the
FTDI Chip Shop and through the
FTDI global sales
network.

FTDI To Exhibit at ESC-Silicon Valley
FTDI will be exhibiting at the
Embedded Systems Conference
Silicon Valley in San Jose, CA from 3rd
- 5th April 2007 (booth 931).
John Hyde, a well known and respected
author and USB consultant will be holding a seminar (ESC-242)
called "How to Use USB without Knowing USB", in which he will add a USB
Flash drive to an existing product using FTDI's
Vinculum embedded USB host controller IC.
The seminar will be held between 2.00pm and 3.30pm on Tuesday 3rd April
in Salon 5 & 6 (Marriott).
VDIP2 Module Released
A new DIP module base don the
VNC1L Vinculum embedded USB host
controller IC is now available. The
VDIP2 is supplied on a PCB designed to
fit into a 40 pin DIP socket, and provides access to the UART, parallel
FIFO, and SPI interface pins on the
VNC1L device, via its AD and AC bus
pins. All other Vinculum I/O pins are also accessible. The VDIP2
is available from the
FTDI web shop and through the
FTDI sales network.

VDRIVE2 and VMUSIC2 Development Modules
Available
FTDI are pleased to announce the availability of two new development
modules based on the
VNC1L Vinculum embedded USB host
controller IC.
Using FTDI's Vinculum firmware, the
VDRIVE2 can be used to add USB Flash
disk connectivity to virtually any system, allowing files to be written
directly to a USB Flash disk.
The
VMUSIC2 module provides all the
functionality of the
VDRIVE2, but uses an extended version
of FTDI's
VDAP firmware with a VLSI VS1003 IC to
allow MP3 file playback directly from a USB Flash disk.

|
DLP-IO8-G Available The DLP-IO8-G is a low-cost,
USB-powered module for measuring voltages, controlling and monitoring
processes, and acquiring temperature data. Each of the 8 available
channels can be configured for any of the digital, analogue or
temperature modes via single-byte commands.
The DLP-IO8-G is available
now via the
FTDI Chip Shop,
DLP Design in the US and the
FTDI worldwide sales
network.

FTDI To Exhibit at ESC-China
FTDI will be exhibiting at the
Embedded Systems Conference China in
Shenzhen from March 5th to March 6th (booth 2E33) and in Shanghai from
March 13th to March 14th (booth 4S77). Guests are also invited to
attend our "Vinculum
- Embedded USB Host Controllers Made Easy" seminars on
Tuesday March 6th in Shenzhen (15:10 - 16:00 in room 316) and Tuesday
March 13th in Shanghai (16:10 - 17:00 in room 4C). FTDI staff will
be available to answer your questions on our range of USB-UART, USB-FIFO
and embedded USB host controller ICs.
