New Product Announcement - FT232R USB UART and
FT245R USB FIFO FTDI are
proud to announce the release of the latest generation of USB UART and
USB FIFO IC devices, the
FT232R (USB UART) and
FT245R (USB
FIFO). |
The FT232R is a highly integrated device which includes onboard EEPROM,
master clock generator, 3.3V LDO regulator, reset generator and USB
termination resistors. Only two external decoupling capacitors are
required for a minimal configuration. In addition to the full set
of modem control signals, the device features five IO pins which can be
configured in EEPROM to have several functions including providing a
output clock which can be used to drive an external MCU or FPGA.
Each device has a unique number (the
FTDIChip-ID™) burnt into it at
manufacturing time which cannot be altered by the end user. Through
an encryption scheme, this feature can be used by product designers to
protect their application software from being copied.
The
FT232R and
FT245R
are available in green Pb-free (RoHS compliant) compact 28-Lead
SSOP and QFN-32 packages as standard.
The FT232R features a wide range of royalty-free FTDI developed drivers
for 32 and 64 bit operating systems including Windows, CE, Linux and Mac
OS. For more details,
Press
releases, articles and web links related to the FT232R and FT245R can be
found here.

Toragi Article on FT2232C
The May edition of Japanese
magazine Toragi (http://www.cqpub.co.jp/toragi/)
contains an article on how to use the FT2232C's Multi Protocol
Synchronous Serial Engine (MPSSE) to program an Altera FPGA over USB.
The MPSSE is used to synthesise the JTAG protocol to load the FPGA with
a raw binary file (RBF) generated using Altera's Quartus software. The
article is not available on-line.

FTCJTAG DLL Extensions
To provide performance
improvement for many USB-JTAG applications, five new functions have been
added to the FTCJTAG DLL. These new functions allow many commands
to be added to a buffer before sending them to the FT2232C and then
execute them in sequence. This can allow more efficient transfer
of data over USB and lead to faster data transfer times.
The
extended FTCJTAG DLL and accompanying programmer's guide are available
to download from the FTCJTAG
page in the Projects
section.

I2C
DLL for FT2232C Published
Following the popularity of
the FTCJTAG DLL, a new DLL has been created to allow easy interfacing of
the FT2232C to I2C devices using the MPSSE. As with the FTCJTAG
DLL, the FTCI2C DLL hides all of the MPSSE specific commands and is
available for free download from the
FTCI2C page
of the MPSSE
section
in the Projects
area of the site. A programmer's guide for the new DLL is also
available from the
Programming Guides page of the
Documents
section and has also been included in the
FTDI Knowledgebase. Please note
that the latest version of the FTCD2XX drivers (1.1.1) must be installed
for the FTCI2C DLL to function. These can be obtained from the
FT2232C
page
of the Drivers
section.
