FTDI Chip at Embedded World 2016

We were delighted to receive such an enthusiastic response to our booth at Embedded World and our interactive demos, whereby we highlighted some of the features and capabilities of our current product portfolio.

Our demonstrations were targeted at real world design solutions - such as EZ Garden which used the CANBUS capabilities of the FT90x series to realise a networked sensor and control solution for agriculture.

Also shown was the Win10 IoT solution which brought together FTDI drivers for the new Win 10 IoT platform on a Raspberry Pi2 board with the FT4232H providing IO expansion over hi-speed USB to allow reading of 3rd party I2C sensors and displaying the reading via our own EVE2 graphics solution.

Finally, we showcased the first public viewing of our new HID class USB to UART/I2C master IC (FT260) and the Arduino based CleO/NerO smart TFT system!

Crowdfunding is currently underway for the CleO platform, with backers able to take advantage of our 25% discount on module packages in addition to receiving a free Class 6, 8GB branded Micro-SD card pre-loaded with all our assets and tutorials for the device. To contribute please click here.

New Products

This year two major technical announcements were made - that of our latest crowdfunding project 'CleO - the smart TFT display for Arduino', and the reference design for an Arduino UNO compatible board 'NerO'. In addition, we launched the FT260 full speed HID class USB to UART/I2C master bridge chip at the show.

CleO

CleO offers smart, easy-to-use TFT display boards to develop professional HMIs. The first model has a HVGA 320 x 480 pixel resolution, 3.5” format TFT display with resistive touchscreen supporting portrait and landscape orientation. An FT810 is responsible for the HMI operation, while the  FT903 deals with additional processing tasks. Its advanced file system supports up to 8 file operations simultaneously. An 8MByte eFlash memory is incorporated for embedded data storage purposes, while a Micro-SD card socket allows external storage up to 32MB. Connectivity options include an Arduino UNO SPI interface, a camera interface, FT903 IO expansion and USB DFU port for firmware updates, and further features include PWM audio output and built-in speaker amplifier.

FTDI Chip are proud to annouce this as our second crowd funding product, following from the successfully backed NerO project. To find out more or get involved, please click here.

NerO

NerO is an energy efficient, Arduino UNO Compatible design. It is capable of supplying a full 1A with its temperature being well below 100°C at maximum load. This Arduino UNO R3 compatible board covers an input voltage of 7V to 20V, has a 16MHz ATmega328 microcontroller with Optiboot bootloader, and provides 14 digital interface pins plus 6 analog inputs. The module is designed to improve on the original Arduino Uno R3, with features such as a mini-USB connector, on-off switch, improved layout of status LEDs and a FT231X USB to UART programming bridge.

FT260

The FT260x full speed HID class USB to UART/I2C master bridge chip provides the advantage of using a standard USB HID class driver which will be already installed in most OS (our other devices are Vendor Class) to provide an ideal, fast to implement bridge between USB and either UART or I2C peripherals. The small 28 pin QFN package provides the perfect bridge for sensor or human interface peripheral applications. The I2C mode of operation will also support the HID over I2C protocol defined by Microsoft with Windows 8.

This device is available now in a 28 pin QFN package. For more information or to purchase, please click here.
