Why doesn't my crystal oscillate?

Return to Introduction  Previous page  Next page

If you are using a crystal to provide the clock signal, you will need to fit loading capacitors to ground to make it oscillate.  These will typically be 27pF, but values should be indicated in the manufacturer's data sheet.

Ceramic resonators have the capacitors internally.
